Material Matters.
The longer we design, the more we realise that materials are never just finishes.
They decide how a space feels before we even begin to notice why.
The coolness of stone under bare feet. The way wood gathers warmth through the day. A lime-washed wall that changes quietly with light. Brass that begins bright and slowly carries the marks of time.
These things matter to us.
We have learnt to look beyond how a material appears on a moodboard and ask different questions. How will it feel every day? How will it age? What will happen when sunlight falls on it for years? Will it become more beautiful with use, or simply demand to be maintained?
Over time, this has changed the way we choose materials.
We find ourselves drawn to things that feel honest. Natural textures. Earthy tones. Imperfections that add character rather than take away from it. Materials that carry a certain familiarity, yet can find their place within a contemporary way of living.
Perhaps that is also where our idea of modern Indian design is slowly finding its voice.
Not in recreating the past, or filling spaces with obvious references to it. But in understanding what has always made Indian spaces feel grounded… natural materials, craftsmanship, texture, warmth and objects that carry meaning — and allowing those ideas to evolve.
Because materials do more than complete a space. They hold light. They gather memories. They age alongside the people who live with them.
And when chosen with care, they quietly become part of the story.
